Our Impact

At Ellers Farm Distillery, our story is built on the simple principle of balancing people, planet, and profit. We produce great spirits with great craft and dedication that we believe are among the world’s best.

Good People, Good by Nature, Always in Good Spirits

Our journey began humbly in 2020, amidst windfall apples in a North Yorkshire orchard. From those overlooked fruits we saw an opportunity too precious to waste, quite literally, and began crafting an exceptional spirit, Dutch Barn vodka, while nurturing our most valued worker, the environment that sustains us. Since then, we have grown into an ethical brand with a famous co-owner, our award-winning products proudly lining the shelves of around 1,000 supermarkets across the UK and our reach expanding internationally.

From our local roots to our global aspirations, our ethos remains steadfast: to balance people, profit, and the planet in everything we do. Our mission is to make sustainability tangible and accessible through our products, driving positive change in a lively and enjoyable context.

Sustainability Leaders

We became a Certified B Corp® in September 2023. As a B Corp, we’re part of a global community of businesses putting impacts on people and the planet on an equal footing with profit. We’re proud to have undertaken the rigorous certification process where every aspect of our company’s entire social and environmental performance was assessed.

Committed to 1.5°C

We live in a world powered by fossil fuels, so virtually everything in modern society has an associated carbon footprint. As members of the SME Climate Hub and signatories of The Climate Pledge, we’ve committed to halving our carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching Net Zero by 2040. This reduction trajectory is aligned with science-based targets, representing the necessary path to limit global warming to 1.5C.

Sustainable by Design

We make our vodka from British apples, a humble fruit with a long history in the UK and an important role to play in habitat creation. By cultivating our own orchard next to our distillery, we’ve taken the first step in reducing our land and water footprints while restoring the ecosystems we rely on

Business as a Force for Good

Without businesses investing in education, climate and nature-based solutions outside their value chain, many important projects like renewable energy infrastructure and forest protection simply wouldn’t happen. In partnership with Ecologi and Climate Partner, we support over 50 projects across the world, helping avoid over 420t CO2, offset another 840t CO2, planting thousands of trees and conserving thousands of hectares of old forests.

Circular Packaging

From our iconic brown bottle, that is 40% lighter than the average spirits bottle and made from 68% post-consumer recycled glass, to our Alumini collection, that is infinitely recyclable and sourced from 100% post-consumer recycled European aluminium, we have optimised the weight, distance travelled and end-of-life management of our packaging materials, changing the status quo for premium spirits.

Radically Responsible

In our business’ legal documents, we have enshrined the obligation to consider our impacts on people, planet and profit in every decision we make. That’s what we call radical responsibility.

Sharing the Wealth

Traditional business models focus on maximising profit for shareholders, but we want all our employees to share in the success of our business. That’s why we have a unique employee profit share deed that distributes 20% of our business profits among our employees.

Living Wage

We’re proud to pay the real Living Wage, the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by almost 10,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs.

Aligned with Global Goals

Amidst a sea of confusing sustainability claims and labels, we choose to demonstrate the integrity of our business and products through measurable progress towards global goals, which are inclusive, equitable and backed by science. Following the framework provided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we set ambitious targets across all 3 pillars of sustainability (environmental, social and governance). These targets are the backbone of our 2030 strategy. Each year, we will rigorously measure and report our progress against these targets, ensuring that we remain on track to achieve our goals.
